About Aerial Osteopath

Aerial Osteopath is essentially me, Kristina Walker. It represents a joining together of my two passions- aerial arts and osteopathy and highlights the vast amount of knowledge and experience I have in both fields. For many years I have used my aerial knowledge to inform my osteopathic practice, in particular identifying a shoulder problem that many aerialists suffer from and using the signs and symptoms that are typical with this to spot a similar shoulder problem in non-aerialists, albeit from different causes. Likewise, my osteopathic and anatomical knowledge has long been used to inform my aerial teaching and has enabled me to teach in the safest way possible.

Treatment wise I favour the classical osteopathic approach to treatment, which allows for the whole body to be considered within each session. I also have a firm belief that movement is key to rehabilitating and maintaining bodily function so I use my extensive knowledge base in health and fitness, nutrition and rehabilitative exercise to provide my patients with after treatment advice and exercises. This enables them to continue working on, and helping, themselves when they are not in the treatment room. By working together in this way, I firmly believe we can get the best possible outcomes from treatment.

Previously I traded as the Birchington Osteopathic Clinic and was based in Minnis Bay but Covid forced me to relocate my practice to my pole dance and aerial studio Phases Dance and Fitness Studio. I practised in Minnis Bay from 2011 having opened the clinic 2 years after qualifying from the Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine (now the International College of Osteopathic Medicine). I also hold the following qualifications/certifications which enable me to practise in the way I find works best.
Level 3 Personal Training
Level 2 Gym Instruction
Level 2 Exercise to Music
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Sports Taping
Pilates for Osteopaths
Coupled with my osteopathic knowledge this enables me to advise specifically on appropriate exercise regimes for injury recovery and prevention.
I hold professional registration with both the General Osteopathic Council and with the Institute of Osteopathy.

Osteopathy explained

Osteopathy is a hands-on system of diagnosis and treatment that has a holistic view of health. This means that osteopaths will look at the whole person and not just the part of the body that hurts. To help reach a diagnosis for your presenting complaint I may ask you questions about any other joint and muscle problems you may have, your current health, your work environment and your diet among other things.
